The initial trailer for On Swift Horses features Daisy Edgar-Jones, Jacob Elordi, Will Poulter, and others in a 1950s melodrama.
Featuring a talented cast of emerging actors, *On Swift Horses*, starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, Jacob Elordi, Will Poulter, Diego Calva, and Sasha Calle, premiered at TIFF last fall and will now be showcased at SXSW ahead of its release on April 25. Before the launch, Sony Pictures Classics has unveiled the first trailer for Daniel Minahan’s melodrama set in the 1950s.
Here’s the synopsis: “Muriel (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and her husband Lee (Will Poulter) are starting a promising new life in California when he returns from the Korean War. However, their newfound stability is disrupted by the arrival of Lee’s charming brother, Julius (Jacob Elordi), a wayward gambler with a hidden past. A perilous love triangle quickly develops. When Julius embarks on a quest for the young card cheat he has fallen for, Muriel’s desire for something greater leads her into a secret life of her own, where she bets on racehorses and explores a love she never thought possible.”
Christopher Schobert commented in his review, “It’s somewhat appropriate that this film features such a cast in a soapy depiction of ’50s melodrama, ultimately revolving around same-sex attraction during a time when such themes were fraught with peril. Adapted by Bryce Klass from Shannon Pufahl’s 2019 novel, *On Swift Horses* is brought to life with flair and meticulous attention by Minahan, who is primarily known as a television director (Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace, Game of Thrones). At times, it feels as though the tangled and chaotic plotlines of *Horses* would be better suited for a series format.”
