The Criterion Channel’s lineup for March includes works by Michael Mann, Alain Guiraudie, Dogme 95, and additional features.
No streaming platform offers a director retrospective quite like the Criterion Channel, and March presents two filmmakers at different levels of visibility. On one side is Michael Mann, with his works from Thief to Collateral (excluding The Keep) featured prominently; on the other hand, Alain Guiraudie has five of his films debuting in anticipation of Misericordia's release on March 21. Notably, his 2001 films That Old Dream That Moves and Sunshine for the Scoundrels might not have previously streamed in the U.S. Additionally, three noir films by Douglas Sirk (Lured, Shockproof, and Thunder on the Hill) are showcased alongside a retrospective of Lee Chang-dong featuring three new restorations.
There will also be exhibitions highlighting Dogme 95, Academy Award winners for Best Supporting Actor, and French Poetic Realism (including works by Renoir, Carné, and Duvivier). Welles’ The Trial receives a Criterion Edition, accompanied by Demon Pond, while Horace Ové’s freshly restored Pressure marks its streaming debut, along with updated versions of Amadeus, Love Is the Devil, Port of Shadows, Burning an Illusion, and the recent favorite Only the River Flows. Furthermore, all three segments of Penelope Spheeris’ The Decline of Western Civilization will have their own feature.
