Jack O'Connell is set to join the cast of the Godzilla x Kong sequel.
The upcoming sequel, Godzilla x Kong, has added a new cast member, Jack O’Connell (Ferrari).
Character specifics are not yet disclosed, but O’Connell will appear alongside Kaitlyn Dever (The Last of Us) and Dan Stevens, who is set to reprise his role as the specialized Titan vet, Trapper Beasley, from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
This film marks the next chapter in Legendary’s Monsterverse, which started with 2014’s Godzilla and culminated in the confrontation between Godzilla and King Kong in Godzilla vs. Kong. During this period, Legendary has also produced the Apple TV+ series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which serves as both a prequel and a continuation of the Monsterverse’s inaugural Godzilla film. Apple renewed Monarch for a second season last year, which is currently in the works.
O’Connell is widely recognized for his performances in Michael Mann’s Ferrari and the Amy Winehouse biopic Back in Black. He is set to appear later this year in Ryan Coogler’s vampire film Sinners alongside Michael B. Jordan, and in Danny Boyle’s highly anticipated 28 Years Later.
Grant Sputore will direct the new Godzilla x Kong installment, with a script penned by Dave Callaham. While specific plot details remain under wraps, the film is characterized as “a continuation of the franchise centering on Godzilla, Kong, and a variety of other Titans.”
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire earned $571.9 million globally, making it the highest-grossing film in the franchise, as well as the highest-grossing Godzilla film ever. To date, the Monsterverse has achieved over $2.5 billion at the worldwide box office.
