This week has been quite significant in the 15+ years of Flickering Myth, as we have ventured into independent filmmaking with the release of our gothic horror film, The Baby in the Basket. From appearing in outlets like The Guardian and Fangoria—thanks largely to an excellent PR campaign by Wez, Kinga, and the team at Strike Media—to a physical release in HMV, Fopp, and Asda in the UK this past Monday (following a theatrical release in the Philippines earlier this month), it has been a thrilling launch. We are excited to share that audiences in the U.S. can now watch our indie gothic horror film for free on the streaming service Tubi.

For any U.S. readers seeking some "low budget nun fun" (The Guardian) or a nostalgic British gothic horror experience this weekend, be sure to check out Tubi and join the conversation on our social media @FlickeringMyth to share your thoughts on this initial release from Flickering Myth Films in collaboration with Shepka Productions.

Additionally, we have a signed cast poster available on our free Patreon page, just three sign-ups away from choosing a winner at the time of writing. For our UK readers, The Baby in the Basket is also available digitally via Prime Video, Apple TV, and Sky Store, as well as in physical stores and on Amazon and HMV on DVD.

Lastly, if you’re interested in being part of Flickering Myth and Shepka Productions’ next film, the suspense thriller Death Among the Pines, we will soon be launching a new crowdfunding campaign to secure finishing funds (we are already halfway through production). This will offer special acknowledgments, Associate and Executive Producer credits, voice roles, and more. You can access the pre-launch page here, and we will be providing more details about the film on Flickering Myth in the coming days.

Set in 1944 during World War II, the story unfolds at St. Augustine’s convent on a remote Scottish island as the sisters prepare for an approaching storm. One night, a cloaked figure leaves a baby in a basket and vanishes without a trace.

The nuns take the boy in and plan to care for him until the storm passes, after which they intend to take him to the mainland for permanent care. However, after just one night under their care, unsettling events begin to occur with the new arrival. Sister Agnes (Amber Doig-Thorne) becomes convinced that the child is the spawn of Satan, which leads to her confinement, as the others fear her isolation has driven her to madness.

As increasingly bizarre incidents prompt the sisters to question their faith and beliefs, they ponder whether Sister Agnes has succumbed to the isolation of the desolate island or if her concerns hold any truth.

The cast includes Amber Doig-Thorne (Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey), Michaela Longden (How to Kill Monsters), Elle O’Hara (Cara), Lisa Riesner (No Dogs Allowed), and Nathan Shepka (When Darkness Falls), alongside esteemed British actors Annabelle Lanyon (Legend), Maryam d’Abo (The Living Daylights), and Paul Barber (The Full Monty).
