Materialists Trailer: Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal Star in Celine Song’s Romantic Comedy
Following the success of her Best Picture-nominated directorial debut, Past Lives, writer-director Celine Song began production on her next project last year. Materialists, which features the impressive cast of Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal, is slated for a wide release on June 13 from A24, and the first trailer has just been released.
The film, reuniting cinematographer Shabier Kirchner, centers on Lucy (Johnson), a young and driven matchmaker in New York City who finds herself caught between her ideal match and her flawed ex-partner. With the June release date approaching, A24 might take the film to Cannes unless they decide to focus on its commercial potential.
“Past Lives is one of the best films I've seen in years, hands down,” Pascal recently shared with GQ when asked about collaborating with Song. “That's the straightforward answer. I met Celine, and we quickly became friends even before the thought of working together came up. Ultimately, I would be willing to take on anything she might envision for me, both as an artist and a friend. Collaborating with such high-caliber talent is the ultimate goal, so I consider myself very fortunate.”
Check out the trailer below, which includes an original song by Japanese Breakfast. Pascal has also recently appeared in an Apple ad directed by Spike Jonze, which is available below as well.
