One Battle After Another Trailer: Leonardo DiCaprio is on the Escape in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Action Spectacle
Although there has been a slight delay, Warner Bros. is showing confidence in Paul Thomas Anderson’s eagerly awaited film One Battle After Another by releasing its first trailer six months ahead of the film's theatrical debut. The project, which has a reported budget between $115M and $140M, is set to premiere on September 26, making it well-positioned for a potential fall festival circuit if PTA chooses to pursue that route. The film will be released in IMAX and 70mm formats.
This marks the long-anticipated collaboration between the director and Leonardo DiCaprio, who had aimed to work together on Boogie Nights nearly thirty years ago. The action-thriller-comedy is adapted from Thomas Pynchon’s expansive 1990 novel Vineland. While the original novel is set in the Reagan era, PTA has modernized the story, focusing on a father who has abandoned his radical past and is living a quiet life on the run with his daughter. When Sean Penn’s character, a white supremacist Colonel, tracks them down, they must escape.
The cast also includes Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Benicio del Toro, Chase Infiniti, Wood Harris, and Alana Haim. From the recent test screenings, it has been reported that the film features “loads of action and car chases,” with a particularly “phenomenal” chase during the climax, making it the “closest we’ll ever get” to a full-fledged PTA action film.
