John Malkovich portrays Seneca in the trailer for a historical comedy-drama.

In anticipation of its digital release this April, a trailer for the historical comedy-drama "Seneca" has been released online. Directed by Robert Schwentke (Snake Eyes), the film features John Malkovich in the role of Seneca and focuses on the philosopher's final days as he is falsely accused by Roman Emperor Nero (Tom Xander) of plotting an assassination attempt against him. Take a look at the trailer below...

Set in Rome in 65 AD, the philosopher Seneca has been a teacher, mentor, and close advisor to Emperor Nero since childhood, playing a significant role in his rise to power. However, Nero grows tired of Seneca and uses a thwarted assassination attempt on his life to wrongfully accuse Seneca of complicity. While hosting a lavish party at his farmhouse, Seneca receives the unexpected death sentence from Emperor Nero, delivered by a messenger, stating he must die by morning. Accepting his fate, he wishes to depart from life by sharing one final lesson of his philosophy with his followers, much like Socrates. This last night becomes his ultimate test: Is he truly an opportunist, hypocrite, and collaborator, or is he, as he perceives himself, a morally upright and wise man confronting death without fear?

The cast includes John Malkovich as Seneca, Tom Xander as Nero, Geraldine Chaplin as Cecelia, Louis Hofmann as Lucilius, Wolfram Koch as Fabius, Lilith Stangenberg as Pompeia Paulina, Samuel Finzi as Status, Andrew Koji as Felix, Mary-Louise Parker as Agrippina, and Julian Sands as Rufus.

"Seneca" will be available on digital platforms starting April 8th.
