Watch Martin Scorsese and Willem Dafoe Engage in a New Discussion About The Last Temptation of Christ.

Anthology’s recent retrospective of Willem Dafoe received a significant boost when their screening of Last Temptation of Christ featured a Q&A session with the actor and Martin Scorsese, who recently shared with Fran Lebowitz that he rarely travels below Central Park. This conversation appears to be one of the few occasions they have discussed the film together, which has a production story that is nearly as compelling as the film itself.

Scorsese's unique ability lies in his rare talent for connecting serious cinematic works with major mainstream figures—illustrated here by Anthology Film Archives and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Earlier this year, it was reported that they might collaborate on a crime project in which Johnson would portray a Hawaiian crime lord “fighting against rival factions for dominance over organized crime in the islands.” Leonardo DiCaprio and Emily Blunt were also set to star in a film that I remain skeptical will ever materialize.

Nevertheless, Deadline has reported that Disney and 20th Century Studios are interested in acquiring it, which would be a significant point of achievement. Meanwhile, Scorsese has been busy working on various projects, including Home (acquired by Apple) and Devil in the White City (also under 20th Century). Additionally, there’s Life of Jesus, which, according to a script excerpt, could be the most significant project among those mentioned. We will have to wait and see.
