DC's Lanterns has cast Jasmine Cephas Jones in the role of John Stewart's mother.

We have more updates regarding the cast of DC's upcoming HBO sci-fi series *Lanterns*, which centers around the Green Lantern heroes Hal Jordan and John Stewart. As reported by Deadline, Jasmine Cephas Jones (from *Blindspotting*) has joined the cast, portraying the character of John Stewart’s mother.

*Lanterns* will detail the story of the legendary Green Lantern Hal Jordan, who hesitantly mentors new recruit John Stewart as they investigate a murder on Earth, leading to darker mysteries and revelations.

Jones will take on the role of Bernadette, described as "Stewart’s resilient mother and the family problem-solver. She is a perceptive thinker who demands the best from herself and her family." Additionally, she is referred to as 'Young Bernadette,' suggesting that an older actress may soon be announced to portray John’s mother in the present day, with J. Alphonse Nicholson and Sherman Augustus playing young and older versions of John Stewart Sr. respectively.

Chris Mundy (from *True Detective*) is showrunning and executive producing *Lanterns*, alongside Damon Lindelof (from *Lost*) and esteemed DC Comics writer Tom King. The show is currently in production for its first season, consisting of eight episodes, and is anticipated to be part of DC Studios' upcoming film universe that will kick off this summer with James Gunn’s *Superman*.

*Lanterns* features Kyle Chandler (from *Bloodline*) as Hal Jordan, Aaron Pierre (from *Rebel Ridge*) as John Stewart, Garrett Dillahunt (from *Where The Crawdads Sing*) as William Macon, Kelly Macdonald (from *Boardwalk Empire*) as Sheriff Kelly, Poorna Jagannathan (from *Never Have I Ever*) as Zoe, Sherman Augustus (from *Stranger Things*) and J. Alphonse Nicholson (from *P-Valley*) as John Senior, Jasmine Cephas Jones (from *Blindspotting*) as Bernadette Stewart, and Ulrich Thomsen (from *The New Pope*) as the infamous DC villain and Green Lantern foe Sinestro.
