A new Toxic Avenger comic is scheduled to debut in July.
Troma’s Toxic Avenger is set for a significant revival in 2025, with the much-anticipated Peter Dinklage-led film finally scheduled to release in August, along with a new Toxic Crusaders beat ’em up video game planned for the latter half of the year. In addition, we can now announce an entirely new ongoing comic book series!
AHOY Comics has revealed the upcoming release of The Toxic Avenger Comics, a series created by writer and two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist Matt Bors, featuring a different artist each issue. The series will kick off in July with a horror-themed narrative by Bors and artist Fred Harper. Following issues will explore various genres, including crime comics (issue #2), sci-fi comics (issue #3), romance comics (issue #4), and fantasy comics (issue #5). Each issue will also feature a two-page story illustrated by Fred Harper that sets up the subsequent storyline, “Toxie Goes to Washington,” which will begin in issue #6.
“When I initially reached out to Lloyd Kaufman and Troma about bringing the Toxic Avenger back in comic form, I was far from modest,” writer Bors shared. “I proposed a new origin story, outrageous new characters, and an extensive, planned multi-year storyline. Now, Fred Harper and I have been given the green light to truly unleash our creativity.”
“Toxic Avenger has always blended elements of horror, comedy, and superhero genres,” Bors added. “I aimed to fully explore the storytelling possibilities this character offers within the comic medium. In these first five issues, we will delve into the crime that plagues Tromaville, Toxie’s romance with his girlfriend Yvonne, the sci-fi elements of mutant abilities, and beyond. My talented collaborators — whom I can’t announce just yet! — and I are introducing new mutated heroes, crazy villains, and quirky losers in every issue. These characters are intended to recur as we establish a long-term series with a multitude of stories to come.”
In the first issue’s standalone horror tale, children are going missing from Toxie’s hometown of Tromaville, NJ. Did they merely flee the chemically contaminated area, or is there a more terrifying truth behind their disappearance?
The Toxic Avengers Comics #1 is set to be released in July 2025.
