Guy Ritchie is considering a sequel to the Road House reboot.
Road House may be making a comeback with Guy Ritchie stepping in to direct the sequel to last year's remake. Puck News reported over the weekend that Ritchie will assume directing responsibilities for this rebooted series, taking over from Doug Liman. Will Beall is said to be writing the script for the sequel.
The 2024 remake of Road House, which Liman directed and starred Jake Gyllenhaal, experienced remarkable success. In its first two weekends on Amazon Prime Video, the film drew 50 million viewers worldwide, becoming the most-watched debut in the history of Amazon MGM Studios.
It's not surprising for those who followed last year's film release that Doug Liman chose not to return for the sequel. Reports indicated that the decision to release the film solely on Prime Video, without a theatrical showing, created tension between the director and the studio.
Ritchie has been quite active lately, directing last year’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare for theaters and releasing The Gentlemen series on Netflix. In just this year, he has unveiled the new Tom Hardy-led series MobLand and is anticipating the releases of Fountain of Youth on Apple TV+ [watch the trailer here] and In the Grey, featuring a collaboration with Gyllenhaal, alongside Henry Cavill and Eiza González.
