The Worlds of Doctor Who - Planet Krynoid: Nightfall is now available from Big Finish.
A brand-new, three-hour full-cast audio drama is released today by Big Finish Productions, presenting catastrophe on a planet and significant challenges for Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor. Featuring Reece Shearsmith as Governor Robert Hodan, The Worlds of Doctor Who – Planet Krynoid: Nightfall introduces the carnivorous plants known as Krynoids, which first appeared in the 1976 Doctor Who television episode The Seeds of Doom. A chilling new trailer is also available below to set the mood…
In Planet Krynoid: Nightfall, listeners are taken to Sunlight, an artificial paradise on a frozen planet that offers relaxation for the affluent and a refuge from unemployment and poverty for the less fortunate. Unfortunately for Governor Robert Hodan, this paradise may be nearing its end when an engineer uncovers a pair of unusual pods attached to a satellite.
The Doctor is well aware that wherever the Krynoids establish themselves, the plants quickly begin to devour local wildlife, signaling that Sunlight's days as a lush paradise might be dwindling.
The three parts of this box set include – Sunlight by Jonathan Morris, Sunset by Jonathan S Powell, and Darkness by Chris Chapman.
In addition to Reece Shearsmith and guest star Paul McGann, this box set features performances from Sarah Whitehouse, Ian Conningham, Nye Occomore, Joseph Ayre, Lucy Heath, Rakie Ayola, Melody Chikakane Brown, Chloë Sommer, Em Prendergast, and Ben Crowe.
Lead actor Reece Shearsmith expressed, “Being part of Doctor Who is exciting; it’s an institution, and it feels like an achievement as an actor to be invited into this world. Hodan is a specific type of character frequently found in Doctor Who – individuals who, despite noble intentions, inadvertently harm others. I’ve played a similar role before in Mark Gatiss’s TV episode Sleep No More. It’s enjoyable to portray, as it involves a lot of inner conflict.”
Paul McGann remarked, “The most effective monsters operate on a visceral, almost childlike level. The Krynoids embody that. Who wants to be consumed by anything, especially a gigantic plant?”
The Worlds of Doctor Who – Planet Krynoid: Nightfall is now available for purchase at £19.99 for the download and £24.99 for the limited collector’s edition box set.
