
First Teaser for Ari Aster's Eddington Shows Joaquin Phoenix Doomscrolling Through the Woes of 2020
Reuniting with Joaquin Phoenix following the polarizing and highly anxiety-inducing Beau Is Afraid, Ari Aster returns with his fourth feature film. His western titled Eddington is set to have its world premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, and it has now been scheduled for a wide release on July 18. A24 has also unveiled the first teaser for the film, which features a cast that includes Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone, Luke Grimes, Austin Butler, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, Clifton Collins Jr., William Belleau, Cameron Mann, Matt Gomez Hidaka, and Amélie Hoeferle.
Here’s a brief synopsis: “In May of 2020, a standoff between a small-town sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix) and the mayor (Pedro Pascal) ignites tensions, turning neighbor against neighbor in Eddington, New Mexico.” The teaser shows Aster confronting the early days of the pandemic, with Phoenix's character engaged in doomscrolling.
