Disney+ has unveiled a trailer, poster, and images for the upcoming drama series "Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes."
The series recounts the tragic shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes, an innocent Brazilian electrician who was killed by police at Stockwell train station in London after being wrongfully identified as a terrorist in the aftermath of the July 2005 London bombings. "Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes" centers on the events surrounding the unfortunate death of the innocent Brazilian, Jean Charles de Menezes (played by Edison Alcaide), who is mistaken for a terrorist. Narrated from various perspectives of those involved, it explores how both accurate and distorted memories can be interpreted as fact and influence our perception of the truth.
In the wake of the horrific suicide bomb incidents on July 7, 2005, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair (Conleth Hill) instigates a large-scale counter-terrorism effort aimed at preventing further attacks, with Assistant Commissioner Andy Hayman (Max Beesley) spearheading the investigation into the bombings. Unbeknownst to the police, another terrorist group is planning an attack that could rival the devastation of 7/7.
This second plot ultimately fails, leading to one of the largest manhunts in the UK’s history and a covert surveillance operation led by Commander Cressida Dick (Emily Mortimer). As the nation experiences rising tension and uncertainty, a series of remarkable occurrences transpires, culminating in a crucial misidentification by the Metropolitan Police. Jean Charles de Menezes, just an innocent Brazilian electrician on his way to work, is wrongly identified as a terrorist and shot dead at Stockwell station. In the aftermath of this tragedy, Independent Police Complaints Commission secretary Lana Vandenberghe (Laura Aikman) makes a life-altering choice, while Deputy Assistant Commissioner Brian Paddick (Russell Tovey), in a police department mired in crisis, advocates for the truth. The story follows a family's quest for justice and answers amid a prolonged battle to clarify a situation muddled by misinformation.
"Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes" will be available on Disney+ starting April 30th.
