The 2025 lineup for the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight includes Christian Petzold, Robin Campillo, and others.
The final significant lineup for Cannes' sidebar has been unveiled with Directors’ Fortnight, featuring perhaps the most eagerly anticipated film of the entire festival: the world premiere of Christian Petzold’s Miroirs No. 3. Also included are Robin Campillo’s opening-night film Enzo, Sean Byrne’s shark thriller Dangerous Animals, and Eva Victor’s Sundance standout Sorry, Baby, which will serve as the festival's closing feature.
The organizers commented on this year’s selection, stating, “In a world marked by turmoil and reactionary sentiments, where republican and universalist principles face opposition, art’s subversive essence is at risk, and significant works face cancellation. Filmmakers globally are standing firmly against these tendencies. The vibrancy and diversity of young cinema remain strong. The films—some emerging from war-torn countries or regions dominated by obscurantism and populism—avoid grandiose rhetoric, choosing instead to present an alternative reality. Cinema consistently leads society. Rather than passing judgment, it complicates matters. Instead of condemning, it questions. Rather than making broad assertions, it focuses on intimate narratives—those of individuals navigating events. It expresses itself through anger or humor and invariably incorporates a touch of poetry.”
They added, “The 57th edition of the Fortnight embraces pluralism, diversity, and is rich in discoveries. It honors an irreplaceable cinematic vibrancy that is now more crucial than ever, even as filmmakers increasingly struggle to fund their projects. It stands in solidarity with directors globally against the homogenization, commodification, and subsequent neutering of cinema. We are thrilled to present a lineup that celebrates the art of mise en scène and the passion and generosity of the creators.”
