The May lineup on the Criterion Channel features The Ghost Writer, along with works by Spike Lee, Kathryn Bigelow, Jia Zhangke, and others.

At The Film Stage, we have a longstanding passion for setting trends, so we’re quite pleased that, nine months after screening a 35mm print at the Roxy, Roman Polanski’s late-career masterpiece The Ghost Writer will be available on the Criterion Channel next month as part of the Coastal Thrillers series. This collection features exactly what the title implies: The Lady from Shanghai, Key Largo, The Long Goodbye, The Fog, and those best films from 2010, including Scorsese’s Shutter Island. It complements the Noir and the Blacklist collection, which showcases postwar realism and left-leaning artists, featuring works by Joseph Losey, Fritz Lang, Jules Dassin, and others. There will also be retrospectives dedicated to Terry Southern, Kathryn Bigelow, Jem Cohen, and just in time for Caught By the Tides, Jia Zhangke, while Spike Lee hosts his own Adventures In Moviegoing segment.

Recent restorations include Antonioni’s Il Grido and Anthony Harvey’s Dutchman. Criterion Editions will feature The Runner, Touchez pas au grisbi, Godzilla vs. Biollante, Paper Moon, and Chaplin’s A Woman of Paris. Additionally, Abel Ferrara’s documentary on Ukraine/Patti Smith, Turn in the Wound, will have its streaming debut, marking the first time for many viewers.
