5 David Corenswet Performances to Watch Before He Soars as Superman
The upcoming Superman features David Corenswet as a new, sensitive, dog-loving Man of Steel.
In addition to embodying Superman, Corenswet will portray his iteration of Clark Kent in the film directed by James Gunn, set to release on July 11.
The Philadelphia-born, Juilliard-trained actor will engage romantically with Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane, challenge Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor, and bond with the adorable super-dog Krypto.
Before David Corenswet gains fame as Superman, here are some notable roles he has played.
The Projectionist in Pearl
You might recall David Corenswet as the slick projectionist in Pearl. Although it’s a brief role in Ti West's horror film, it is quite pivotal.
He not only introduces Pearl (Mia Goth) to her first adult film but also has the audacity to end their relationship with the memorable words: “You’re scaring me, Pearl.”
River Barkley in The Politician
In the Netflix comedy-drama series The Politician, co-created by Ryan Murphy, Corenswet has an 11-episode storyline across both seasons as River Barkley, a Saint Sebastian High School student who has romantic entanglements with Payton Hobart (Ben Platt) and Astrid Sloan (Lucy Boynton).
Although River is a well-liked student, he experiences feelings of emptiness — we won’t reveal more here.
David McDougal in We Own This City
In this six-episode HBO crime drama, Corenswet plays Investigator David McDougall from the Harford County Narcotics Task Force. The series follows Jon Bernthal as Sgt. Wayne Jenkins, part of the Baltimore Police Department’s Gun Trace Task Force, which faces corruption allegations.
We Own This City is based on real events and is inspired by the nonfiction book by Baltimore Sun journalist Justin Fenton.
Reed in House of Cards
Although he appears in just one episode of House of Cards, it deserves mention as it is the penultimate episode of the series and relates significantly to Madame President Claire Underwood’s (Robin Wright) backstory.
In a flashback, Corenswet portrays Reed, Claire’s boyfriend when she was 20. While Reed encourages her to decline Frank Underwood’s (Kevin Spacey) proposal, Claire rejects his advice and marries Frank, hoping for new opportunities.
For better or worse, she sees his influence.
Jake in Look Both Ways
In the recent Netflix romantic comedy, Corenswet stars alongside Lili Reinhart’s Natalie as Jake, the man she might have been with had she moved to Los Angeles to chase her dreams instead of becoming pregnant by her friend Gabe (Danny Ramirez). The film explores how Natalie’s life could have unfolded differently based on that pivotal moment.
