Searchlight Pictures has released the first trailer for The Roses, the forthcoming comedy-drama directed by Jay Roach.
This film is a reimagining of the 1989 movie The War of the Roses and Warren Adler’s 1981 novel. It features Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch as a couple who appear to have a perfect life, but their harmony is disrupted when one partner’s career falters and the other’s ambitions flourish, sparking deep-seated resentment.
The lives of the seemingly perfect couple Ivy (Olivia Colman) and Theo (Benedict Cumberbatch) seem effortless: they have thriving careers, a loving relationship, and wonderful children. However, beneath the surface of their ideal existence, tensions are rising – as Theo’s career takes a downturn while Ivy’s aspirations soar, a mix of fierce rivalry and concealed resentment emerges. The Roses reinterprets the classic 1989 film The War of the Roses, based on Adler's novel.
Joining Colman and Cumberbatch in the ensemble cast are Andy Samberg, Allison Janney, Belinda Bromilow, Sunita Mani, Ncuti Gatwa, Jamie Demetriou, Zoë Chao, and Kate McKinnon.
The Roses is scheduled to be released on September 1st.
