Henry Johnson Trailer: Shia LaBeouf Stars in David Mamet’s First Theatrical Film in 17 Years

Although David Mamet has embraced some controversial views, he remains a significant figure in cultural discussions. With a revival of Glengarry Glen Ross currently energizing Broadway, his screenplay for a JFK assassination film is being developed with Barry Levinson at the helm (though it has recently encountered some challenges). Additionally, he's set to release his first theatrical directorial project since 2008’s Redbelt.

Henry Johnson, featuring Evan Jonigkeit, Shia LaBeouf, Chris Bauer, and Dominic Hoffman, is Mamet’s adaptation of his praised 2023 play of the same name, with the entire cast recreating their stage performances in the film. Ahead of its self-distributed theatrical release starting on May 9 at LA’s Aero Theatre, alongside rental options directly from the film’s website, the first trailer and poster have been unveiled.

Here’s the synopsis: “Written and Directed by Pulitzer Prize winner David Mamet, HENRY JOHNSON follows the titular character (Jonigkeit) as he seeks his moral compass after an act of kindness disrupts his life. In his interactions with various authority figures, including his future cellmate, Gene (LaBeouf), Henry's path leads him into a realm of manipulation and moral ambiguity. The film examines themes of power, justice, and the repercussions of allowing others to dictate your direction.”
