Darth Maul makes his comeback in the animated series Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord.
Disney and Lucasfilm commenced their annual fan convention, Star Wars Celebration, in Japan early this morning, unveiling footage from next year’s Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu movie and officially announcing that Ryan Gosling will be joining the galaxy far, far away for a role in Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter, who is also the director for Deadpool & Wolverine.
However, Starfighter isn't the only significant announcement of the day. It was also revealed that Lucasfilm CCO Dave Filoni will carry on with his animated stories through Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, a brand-new series that will feature Sam Witwer reprising his role as Darth Maul from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.
The official synopsis for Maul – Shadow Lord states: “In a new series set after the events of the final season of The Clone Wars, Maul rises again to lead the underworld factions."
While additional details are currently under wraps, attendees at the Celebration were treated to a sizzle reel from the upcoming series that hinted at the participation of Ahsoka’s Inquisitor Marrok and Maul’s new apprentice, Darth Talon, a Twi’lek Sith Lord from Star Wars Legends, who was originally intended to be one of the main antagonists alongside Maul in George Lucas’ initial plans for a Sequel Trilogy.
Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is in production and is scheduled to debut on Disney+ in 2026.
