Alicia Silverstone is set to reprise her role in the sequel series of Clueless.
Are the 90s making a comeback? Before you scoff with an “As If,” we have news about a classic 1995 movie that's getting a new sequel series. Indeed, Clueless is returning, with the original Cher Horowitz, Alicia Silverstone, reprising her role.
Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are set to write the series alongside Jordan Weiss, and the trio will also serve as executive producers. CBS Studios will collaborate with Universal Television for production. Schwartz and Savage are recognized for co-creating the beloved teen series Gossip Girl and its recent reboot on Max.
The film's original writer and director, Amy Heckerling, along with producer Robert Lawrence, will also act as executive producers.
Clueless premiered in 1995 and quickly became a cult hit, with fans quoting lines and admiring its stylish fashion for years. It was often considered a loose adaptation of Jane Austen's novel, Emma. Besides Silverstone, the cast included Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy, Donald Faison, Elisa Donovan, Breckin Meyer, and Dan Hedaya.
If you're puzzled about another Clueless project that fell through due to creative disagreements with Peacock, that series (from a different creative team) was described as a mystery where Cher goes missing, focusing instead on her best friend, Dionne. There was also a lesser-known sequel series that aired on ABC and later UPN from 1996 to 1999, running for three seasons.
Details about the plot remain under wraps, but keep an eye on Flickering Myth for further updates.
