Victor, an expert in cryogenics, led a mostly normal life. He worked hard and fell in love with a woman named Nora, eventually marrying her. Unfortunately, fate took a turn for the worse when Nora fell terminally ill. To save her from her debilitating illness, Victor placed her in suspended animation. However, the corporation that funded his research terminated his experiments, leading to a tragic accident. The coolants caused irreversible damage, making it impossible for him to survive in temperatures above freezing. To combat this, Victor created a special, highly durable suit to keep him alive and regulate his body temperature. He accepted his new identity and became Mr. Freeze.

Etrigan was a minor demon from Hell consumed by rage and ambition. After rebelling against his master, Lucifer, the dark lord allowed the magician Merlin to bind Etrigan to a human scribe named Jason Blood. When danger arises, Jason switches places with Etrigan, but he is transported to Hell while the demon takes control. Etrigan, resentful of being forced to act heroically for a human, schemes to secure his freedom.
