Edward Berger will direct Brad Pitt in The Riders.
Conclave director Edward Berger has secured Brad Pitt for the lead role in his adaptation of the Booker Prize shortlisted novel The Riders.
First published in 1994, the book by Tim Winton follows an Australian man named Fred Scully, who, with his wife Jennifer and their seven-year-old daughter Billie, is preparing to emigrate from Australia to Ireland. However, on the day they are supposed to join him in their new country, only the traumatized Billie arrives on the flight. The remainder of the novel depicts their journey across Europe as they seek to discover what happened to Jennifer.
According to a report from Deadline, Pitt will portray Fred in The Riders, which will be adapted by David Kajganich, known for Bones and All and Suspiria. The film is set to be produced by Scott Free Productions, Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment, and Berger’s own Nine Hours production company, with A24 handling the distribution rights.
The Academy Award winner for All Quiet on the Western Front is fresh off eight Oscar nominations for his critically acclaimed papal drama. Pitt will begin working on his Australian accent after the Formula 1 season kicks off this June, in addition to wrapping up production on David Fincher’s The Continuing Adventures of Cliff Booth for Netflix.
