The new 16-bit shoot 'em up, Earthion, is set to be released on PC, consoles, and the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis.

Limited Run Games has revealed that the all-new 16-bit shoot ’em up Earthion will be available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PlayStation 5 later this year. Even more exciting is the announcement of a physical cartridge release for the Sega Mega Drive (or Genesis, for our American friends). Check out the new announcement trailer below to see how impressive the game looks.

Developed by the Japanese team Ancient Corporation, known for the esteemed video game composer Yuzo Koshiro (famous for his captivating soundtrack for Streets of Rage), Earthion will have players take on the role of space fighter pilot Azusa Takahashi as he battles through eight intense levels in classic side-scrolling style. Each level presents its own distinct environment, enemies, and colossal, screen-filling bosses.

Earthion marks a return to Koshiro's 16-bit roots, as he composes 27 original tracks for players to enjoy while defeating foes. Alongside Yuzo Koshiro, the team also includes notable figures such as Makoto Wada (Gotta Protectors, Royal Anapoko Academy) and artist Mitsuhiro Arita (illustrator for the Pokémon Trading Card Game).

For those who appreciate scanlines to emulate that retro aesthetic on modern TVs, Earthion offers highly customizable scanline settings.

      Featuring:

      - 8 stages packed with retro-style arcade action, each with unique environments, enemies, and bosses.

      - 27 original tracks and a sound design crafted by Yuzo Koshiro.

      - Multiple difficulty settings and a challenge mode.

      - Configurable scanlines and display options for CRT emulation.

      - A level password system.

      - A music player mode.

      - Bonus playable demos from the game’s development.

      - Online leaderboards, excluding the Mega Drive version.

Be on the lookout for Earthion set to launch on PC, consoles, and the Mega Drive/Genesis later this year.
