MUBI has unveiled a UK trailer for the drama Hot Milk, written and directed by Rebecca Lenkiewicz. Adapted from Deborah Levy's acclaimed novel of the same title, the film features Emma Mackey (Sex Education) as a young woman who journeys to the Spanish coast with her domineering, ailing mother, embarking on a path of self-discovery. Set during the sweltering summer in Spain, Sofia (Emma Mackey) and her sick mother, Rose (Fiona Shaw), travel to the coastal town of Almería to seek assistance from Dr. Gómez (Vincent Perez), an enigmatic healer who may have the answers to Rose’s unexplained illness. As old tensions arise, Sofia becomes intrigued by the captivating and free-spirited Ingrid (Vicky Krieps). However, as Sofia's quest for independence intensifies, it challenges her controlling mother, prompting her to reconsider the true nature of Rose's condition. A series of secrets, lies, and revelations come to light, leading Sofia to confront matters that might be better left untouched. Hot Milk is set to premiere in US theaters on June 27th and in UK theaters on July 4th.
