13 Stars from the 1970s Who Are Still Thriving
Here are some stars from the 1970s who continue to thrive today.
**Diane Keaton**
After gaining fame with *The Godfather*, Diane Keaton achieved icon status with *Annie Hall* and has maintained it ever since. Following a series of films like *Reds*, *Baby Boom*, the *Father of the Bride* series, and *Something's Gotta Give*, she returned in 2023 with the sequel *Book Club: The Next Chapter*. She also delivered an excellent performance in *Mack & Rita*. Truly, she's outstanding in every role.
Speaking of *The Godfather*, what happened to that actor who played her husband? What was his name?
**Al Pacino**
Oh yes, Al Pacino, one of the finest actors of both the 1970s and all time, made his mark with *The Panic of Needle Park* in 1971 before a series of notable films including the first two *Godfather* installments, *Dog Day Afternoon*, and *Serpico*.
In the 1980s, he was selective with his roles, delivering a memorable performance in *Scarface*. His remarkable career in the 1990s featured an Oscar-winning role in *Scent of a Woman*—ridiculously, he won only once from nine nominations—followed by films like *Heat*, *Donnie Brasco*, and *Devil's Advocate*.
Recent highlights also include *Once Upon a Time in Hollywood*, *The Irishman*, and a comedic role in *House of Gucci*. He has recently transitioned to television, appearing in Amazon's *Hunters*.
At 84, Pacino shared the screen last year with Michael Keaton in *Knox Goes Away*, directed by Keaton, and in *Modì, Three Days on the Wing of Madness*, directed by his *Donnie Brasco* co-star Johnny Depp.
He has also published a new autobiography and boasts so many great films that there are at least five you probably haven't heard of.
**Robert De Niro**
Robert De Niro, who often partnered with Pacino and vied for roles, might be the closest competition for the title of best actor of the 1970s (and possibly all time).
He made his mark with performances in *The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight* and *Bang the Drum Slowly* in 1970, becoming a cinematic icon with *Mean Streets*, *The Godfather Part II* (which earned him his first Oscar), *Taxi Driver*, and *The Deer Hunter*. His next achievement was *Raging Bull* in 1980, garnering his second Oscar.
His extensive filmography since then includes *Goodfellas*, *Casino*, *Awakenings*, *Silver Linings Playbook*, *Heat*, *Jackie Brown*, *Midnight Run*, and the *Meet the Parents* franchise. His latest Oscar nomination was for *The Irishman*, reuniting him with Pacino and Martin Scorsese, marking the first time he collaborated with both.
He also received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor last year for *Killers of the Flower Moon*.
**Jamie Lee Curtis**
The most recent winner of the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for *Everything Everywhere All at Once* is likely best known for her portrayal of Laurie Strode in 1978's *Halloween*, a character she has revisited multiple times, including in the latest trilogy, before declaring she won't play the character again.
Her impressive career includes a wide range of roles in films like *Trading Places*, *A Fish Called Wanda*, *True Lies*, and *Knives Out*.
She garnered acclaim for her latest film, *The Last Showgirl*, opposite Pamela Anderson, and was one of the first stars to pledge $1 million to help recover from the L.A. fires.
**Sylvester Stallone**
After making a splash in 1974's *The Lords of Flatbush*, Stallone was dissatisfied with the roles offered to him. So, he blacked out his windows to concentrate and penned several screenplays, one of which became *Rocky*. He insisted on playing the lead and emerged as one of the breakout stars of the 1970s.
In doing so, he helped pave the way for the modern blockbuster—along with franchises—doing so again with the *Rambo* series. *Rocky* also led to *Creed*, where Stallone starred in the first two films. This year, he returns with the fourth and possibly final installment of *Expendables*.
Additionally, he ventured into television, portraying an ex-con in *Tulsa King*. Surprisingly, he has never won an Oscar, although *Rocky* secured Best Picture and Best Director for John G. Avildsen.
He is also the focus of a recent compelling Netflix documentary about his life and career titled *
