Neve Campbell selected for a role in Marvel's X-Men '97.

This week, there was a lot of excitement online regarding the possibility of Neve Campbell, known for her role in Scream, joining Marvel, particularly in an X-Men capacity, although the specifics were unclear. Reports had linked her to the character Polaris, the child of Magneto, but no details were provided about the project. Some speculated that Campbell would appear in the forthcoming X-Men movie, while others suggested she might be involved in Avengers: Doomsday. However, it now appears her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be in X-Men ’97.

Beau DeMayo, the creator and executive producer, addressed the speculation on social media. It has been confirmed that Campbell will portray Polaris, but her contribution will be to the animated series rather than in live-action. He stated, “Incorrect. I cast her as Polaris in Season 2 of #xmen97. She does amazing work bringing something new, and it felt right to have a 90s icon pick up where Lorna’s story was left in ‘Cold Comfort.’ She’s got some thoughts on Genosha.”

X-Men ’97 Season 1 debuted on Disney+ on March 20, 2024, consisting of 10 episodes and quickly became a favorite among fans. DeMayo was the showrunner and head writer for both seasons one and two. Following some controversy, he stepped away from the project, but season two had already been fully written and was in production.

Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Brad Winderbaum, has confirmed that X-Men ’97 Season 2 will be available on Disney+ in 2026.
