Casey Jones to head upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book series.
IDW Publishing has revealed that the beloved hero Casey Jones will be in the spotlight with his own comic series for the first time in over thirty years, launching in September with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Casey Jones, written by Alex Paknadel (Batman: Urban Legends) and illustrated by Amancay Nahuelpan (Green Arrow).
“As a quirky British kid who once memorized the lyrics to ‘Turtle Power,’ I feel like my journey has come full circle,” said Paknadel. “IDW and many talented creators have expanded Casey’s backstory over the years, but Amancay and I are contributing at a particularly thrilling time. We’re returning Casey to his roots, facing him against an alarming, relentless villain who targets the city’s most vulnerable mutants. If this comic is even half as enjoyable to read as it is to create, readers are in for a fantastic experience.”
“I’ve been a huge fan of Casey Jones since I watched the cartoons and the original movie,” added Nahuelpan. “Alongside Raphael, they’ve always been my favorite TMNT characters, and as a fan of New York City, anything connected to the Turtles and the city is something I’m more than excited to draw!”
“Casey Jones stands out as one of the top characters in the TMNT universe,” stated series editor Dave Wielgosz. “He’s loyal, courageous, noble, and as we’ll see in this mini-series… somewhat reckless. Alex and Amancay will showcase all the qualities that have made Casey a lasting figure in every version of the TMNT he’s been included in and put him through challenges like he’s never faced before. If you enjoy stories about street-level vigilantes and the TMNT universe, our book will be a treat for you.”
Now recovered after being shot in the acclaimed TMNT ongoing series by Jason Aaron and Juan Ferreyra, Casey Jones has been given a fresh start and is determined to make the most of it. The vigilante is patrolling the streets, doing everything in his power to safeguard the citizens of New York City, but both Raphael and April O’Neil are concerned that he may be overexerting himself. The situation will worsen as a new form of mutagen alters the city, and a terrifying new villain poses a threat to everything Casey holds dear.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Casey Jones #1 will be available in September.
