John Travolta is set to confront rogue orcas in Renny Harlin's Black Tides.

John Travolta is gearing up for a survival challenge against a group of hungry orcas, as Deadline reports that he is collaborating with Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger director Renny Harlin for the film Black Tides.

This survival thriller, penned by Chris Sparling (Buried) and Ángel Agudo (Apocalypse Z), will feature Travolta as Bill Pierce, “an estranged father whose effort to reconnect with his daughter and grandson spirals into a terrifying struggle for survival when their boat is ambushed by rogue orcas off the southern coast of Spain.”

"John Travolta embodies the ideal blend of toughness, depth, vulnerability, and charm in the role of Bill Pierce, the estranged father, effectively portraying the sorrow of family relationships,” Harlin commented. “I am eager to demonstrate to cinema enthusiasts how his star power and physical presence will lend weight to the thrilling action scenes and profoundly emotional personal narrative. As a director, I feel privileged to join the ranks of esteemed filmmakers who have had the opportunity to know John as both a creative artist and an individual.”

Black Tides signifies a return to aquatic themes for Renny Harlin, whose past works include the cult classic shark thriller Deep Blue Sea, along with the upcoming Deep Water featuring Aaron Eckhart and Ben Kingsley. He is also in the process of preparing for the release of the second installment in his trilogy reboot of The Strangers, which is slated for a September release.
