Sesame Street relocates to a new community: Netflix.
Sesame Street has found a new home, thanks to Netflix, which is stepping up as the savior of this beloved children's series. The streaming service has established a partnership with Sesame Workshop to produce new episodes of the iconic show. This announcement comes at a crucial moment for Sesame Street, as its original broadcaster, PBS, faces criticism from President Trump, and Warner Bros. Discovery has chosen not to renew its agreement for the program.
"This distinct public-private partnership will allow Sesame Workshop to provide our research-based curriculum to young audiences globally through Netflix’s worldwide reach, while also ensuring that children in communities throughout the U.S. maintain free access to the Sesame Street content they cherish on public television," stated Sesame Workshop CEO Sherri Westin.
The deal with Netflix will kick off later this year with the release of season 56. Reports indicate that this upcoming season will be "reimagined," moving away from its magazine-style presentation to feature longer segments and introducing a new animated segment titled Tales From 123.

"I firmly believe that our educational programming for children is one of the most vital components of our service to the American public, and Sesame Street has been a key element of that mission for over fifty years," said Paula Kerger, president and CEO of PBS. "We are proud to continue our collaboration aimed at making a significant difference in children's lives for many more years."
Episodes will also be broadcast on PBS, launching on the same day they are available on Netflix. This marks a significant shift from the previous arrangement with HBO Max, where new episodes would premiere on PBS several months after their streaming debut.
Netflix has indicated that the new season of Sesame Street will be rolled out in three "batches."
