Billie Piper takes over from Ncuti Gatwa as The Sixteenth Doctor in Doctor Who.

      There has been much speculation regarding Ncuti Gatwa's future as the Doctor for several weeks, and in an unexpected twist from the season finale of Doctor Who, the iconic Time Lord has experienced yet another regeneration—one that might be the most surprising for the character so far.

      In the episode's climax, Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor transformed into a very recognizable face—not David Tennant again, but Tennant's former co-star Billie Piper, who played the Doctor's companion Rose during the show's revival in 2005 and made several guest appearances since then.

      “It’s no secret how much I adore this show, and I’ve always said I would love to come back to the Whoniverse because I have some of my best memories there. Being given the chance to step back onto that Tardis one more time was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up,” Piper said about her return.
