The September lineup from The Criterion Collection includes High and Low, Wes Anderson films, and Spinal Tap in 4K.

It is probable that Criterion was working on their 4K upgrade of High and Low—a film they released so long ago that it was previously subject to a “high-definition digital transfer”—well before any date was determined for Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest, although fortune often does not rely on coincidence. In any case, Akira Kurosawa’s epic story of a king’s ransom is set to be released in September, a month that also features upgrades for This Is Spinal Tap (that’s spine number twelve, conveniently timed for its sequel) and several films by Wes Anderson compiled in a comprehensive box set spanning 25 years, which includes new titles Isle of Dogs and The French Dispatch.

Freshly released in 4K are Gints Zilbalodis’ Oscar-winning Flow and Jacques Audiard’s Read My Lips. Additionally, the latter's The Beat That My Heart Skipped is being released on Blu-ray along with Lizzie Borden’s Born in Flames.

It is probable that Criterion was working on their 4K upgrade of High and Low—a film they released so long ago that it had already undergone a "high-definition digital transfer"—well in advance of any timeline established for Spike Lee's Highest 2 Lowest. However, chance occurrences seldom hinge on such factors. In any event, Akira Kurosawa's epic story of a king's ransom remains significant.
