Step into a mystical realm with the inaugural trailer for Realm of Satan.

      After viewing Scott Cumming’s formally engrossing documentary Realm of Satan about 18 months ago at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, I have been eagerly awaiting news regarding its release. Now that Monument Releasing has acquired it, it is set to make its way to select theaters next month, and they have just revealed a new trailer and poster.

      Here’s the synopsis: “Realm of Satan is a unique portrayal of Satanists in both the mundane and the extraordinary. As a ritualistic documentary, it enchants viewers, drawing them into a mystical realm filled with magic, mystery, and misanthropy.”

      In my Sundance review, I remarked, “Created in collaboration with the Church of Satan, as noted in its opening credits, Scott Cumming’s Realm of Satan does not aim to uncover the religion’s hidden secrets, explore its place among belief systems, or primarily engage with those who may oppose its views. Instead, through a series of inspired cinematic tableaux, we are invited to observe the practices and daily lives of individuals adhering to this atheistic path. By choosing not to probe deeply into the thoughts of the subjects—and with minimal input from the filmmaker aside from the images he selects—Realm of Satan ultimately serves as a fascinating Rorschach test for one’s interpretation of the religious.”
