Marvel has scheduled a mystery film for 2028. Could this be Jake Schreier's X-Men project for the MCU?
When Marvel Studios announces a vague release date, fans start to speculate about what could fill that slot. With the recent news about the X-Men coming just before this new date was established, could we be on the verge of a complete MCU introduction of our beloved mutants?
Disney revealed this week that Marvel Studios is set to release an unspecified film on December 15, 2028. This signifies Marvel’s return to launching four films annually, as previously scheduled releases are lined up for February, May, and November 2028.
Variety reported on the December 2028 film and also appeared to confirm that Jake Schreier will direct an X-Men movie for Marvel. The close connection between the two could just be coincidental, but given that mutants are experiencing a resurgence, it would be wise to expedite that film’s development. We mentioned back in May that Schreier was a contender for the position, and Variety has seemingly verified that information.
Details regarding this upcoming X-Men film are minimal. Jake Schreier is set to direct a script by Michael Lesslie, with Kevin Feige serving as producer. No cast or character details have been revealed yet.
If you are eager for some mutant action before this anticipated 2028 release, characters from the Fox X-Men movies will appear in Avengers: Doomsday, featuring Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and James Marsden as Cyclops. That film is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026.
