Glen Powell will headline the upcoming firefighter film directed by Ron Howard.

      Glen Powell isn't shy about taking us back to the '90s with his film selections. From Twisters to Anyone But You, he encapsulates a more straightforward era in cinema. Now, he's collaborating with one of the most cherished filmmakers of the 1990s, Ron Howard.

      Amazon MGM Studios has officially announced the production of a new film centered on firefighters, featuring Powell in the lead role and Howard as the director. The project is reportedly being produced by Imagine Entertainment alongside Powell's own company, Barnstorm.

      The concept and script are penned by Christina Hodson, who is recognized for her work on the screenplay for the Transformers spin-off Bumblebee and for Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey and The Flash for Warner Bros. and DC Comics. She is also co-writing a script for the 11th installment of the Fast and the Furious series with Oren Uziel.

      According to reports, the movie will follow "diverse childhood friends, now elite firefighters, who must mend their strained relationship when a series of deadly fires sweep through Texas."

      Many have noted that Ron Howard is revisiting familiar ground with this still-unnamed project, having previously directed the well-received firefighter film Backdraft in 1991. That film earned $152.4 million globally and garnered three Academy Award nominations for Best Sound, Best Sound Editing, and Best Visual Effects.

      Coming up for Glen Powell is Edgar Wright's The Running Man, set to be released in November, along with the Hulu comedy series Chad Powers, which is slated to debut in late September. Check out the teaser trailer here.
