Dan Trachtenberg, the director of Prey and Badlands, hints at another Predator film.
Dan Trachtenberg understands our desire for more Predator, particularly under his direction, and it seems we might get our wish. The director has recently confirmed he is developing a fourth film following the success of Prey and his subsequent projects.
Trachtenberg humorously noted that he “sort of rushed” to work on the animated Predator: Killer of Killers and the upcoming live-action Predator: Badlands to advance this new project. “After the release of Prey, I began contemplating sequel ideas, and I had three concepts in mind. One is Killers, the second is Badlands, and the third is something else,” he explained to SFX magazine. “The motivation behind making these films and why I felt compelled to rush – I worked on two simultaneously thanks to animation – stemmed from my excitement to reach the third concept.”
“There are plenty of exciting ideas out there, and they don’t revolve around simply continuing a successful story. They're more like, ‘Wow, this hasn’t been done in sci-fi. No one has approached this in Predator. None of these ideas have been explored with the creature; all stem from that creative instinct. So, yes, there is definitely a third idea I’m eager to pursue once Badlands is wrapped up.”
Predator: Killer of Killers premiered on Hulu in the US and Disney+ in the UK earlier this month [read our review here], while Predator: Badlands is set to return the franchise to theaters on November 7th [watch the trailer here].
