Russell T. Davies himself is uncertain about the future of Doctor Who.

Although Doctor Who showrunner Russell T. Davies may be uncertain about the series' future, his recent comments convey a sense of optimism.

As Doctor Who explores new territory with the return of Billie Piper as a potential Sixteenth Doctor, a small contingent seems poised for its decline. With the BBC and Disney+ yet to renew Doctor Who for a third season, it appears that hope might be dwindling, and Davies himself is unsure about what lies ahead.

In a column for the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine, Davies acknowledged that he doesn't have a clear direction for the series. “We don’t know what’s happening yet,” he stated while announcing a “pause” in his contributions to the publication, “while everyone works that out.” Nevertheless, the creator expressed hopefulness, saying, “Hopefully, we’ll have news soon... There are pathways leading to potential futures — we’ve still got the mystery of that bright and blazing ending, ‘Oh, hello,’ yes indeed, hello Billie!”

In conclusion, he asserted confidently: “Doctor Who will never end.”

In the meantime, while we wait for updates on the main series, the spinoff titled The War Between the Land and the Sea is set to premiere on BBC and Disney+ this year [watch the trailer here], and a new animated series for CBeebies has also been announced as in the works.
