Cillian Murphy's "Steve" is set to have both a theatrical release and a debut on Netflix this autumn.
Cillian Murphy's drama *Steve* has been released in theaters this fall prior to its debut on Netflix. Directed by Tim Mielants (known for *Small Things Like These*), the film is adapted from the novel *Shy* by Max Porter, featuring Murphy as a teacher attempting to connect with his at-risk students to enhance their lives.
Joining Murphy in the cast are Jay Lycurgo (*Generation Z*), Tracey Ullman (*The Tracey Ullman Show*), Simbi Ajikawo (*Top Boy*), and Emily Watson (*Dune: Prophecy*).
Set in the mid-1990s, *Steve* portrays a crucial day in the life of the headteacher and his students at a last-chance reform school in a world that has abandoned them. As Steve strives to uphold the school's integrity amidst its looming closure, he confronts his own mental health challenges. Simultaneously, the troubled teen Shy (Lycurgo) finds himself torn between his past and his future as he attempts to balance his inner vulnerability with his tendencies for self-destruction and violence.
*Steve* will have a limited theatrical release starting in September, with its release date yet to be confirmed, followed by a premiere on Netflix on October 3rd. Murphy is producing the film through Big Things Films in partnership with Alan Moloney.
