American actor Michael Madsen has died at the age of 67 after experiencing a cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu, California, on Thursday, July 3rd, as confirmed by his representatives.
Born in Chicago in 1957, Madsen started his career in theater and received his first significant screen role with a minor appearance in the 1983 film WarGames. Over the next decade, he gained further recognition with roles in movies like Kill Me Again, The End of Innocence, The Doors, and Thelma & Louise, eventually achieving fame for his portrayal of Mr. Blonde in Quentin Tarantino’s provocative 1992 movie Reservoir Dogs.
After this breakthrough, Madsen became a prolific character actor, appearing in numerous films over the following thirty years. His notable works include Free Willy, Wyatt Earp, Species, Mulholland Falls, Donnie Brasco, Die Another Day, and Sin City, along with collaborations with Quentin Tarantino in Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, The Hateful Eight, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
A statement from Madsen’s management team noted, “In the last two years, Michael Madsen has been engaged in remarkable work with independent films, including the forthcoming feature films Resurrection Road, Concessions, and Cookbook for Southern Housewives, and he was eagerly anticipating this next chapter in his life.” The statement also mentioned that he was getting ready to publish a new book titled Tears For My Father: Outlaw Thoughts and Poems, which is currently in the editing phase. “Michael Madsen was one of Hollywood’s most legendary actors, and he will be greatly missed by many.”
