The atmospheric indie horror game Hellkind is now available for free on Steam.
For those intrigued by eerie, folklore-driven horror, Hellkind could be the perfect game. Created entirely by solo developer Emir Arkman (also known as Motamot) during late hours away from his AAA job, Hellkind is a brief indie game that has been released for free on Steam, delving into the myths and ambiance of Galicia, a foggy region in northwestern Spain.
Set in the actual village of San Andrés de Teixido, the game immerses players in a mysterious realm filled with cults, curses, and ancient rituals. Players will awaken in an unusual sanctuary where something sinister is already unfolding, and it’s their responsibility to piece together the situation by solving puzzles and exploring before they become part of the ritual themselves.
What truly distinguishes Hellkind is its dedication to authenticity, featuring voice acting entirely in Galician, a language seldom represented in games. This contributes a distinctive and chilling element to the gaming experience. With its stark black-and-white top-down design, enigmatic storytelling, and a gameplay duration that remains concise, it offers a compact and atmospheric journey into the supernatural.
Arkman describes it as a “small but meaningful” homage to a place he has never lived in but is deeply fascinated with due to its mythology and folklore. Hellkind is currently available on Steam, free for both Windows and Mac.
