Amazon MGM and Hasbro collaborate on a live-action My Little Pony film.

It seems that My Little Pony may be preparing to follow the path of other 80s Hasbro toy franchises like Transformers and G.I. Joe by making its way to the big screen for a live-action film, though the exact nature of this is still unclear.

According to Variety, Hasbro Entertainment is collaborating with Amazon MGM Studios on a live-action movie based on the beloved franchise. However, the project is reported to be in its early stages and has yet to hire a writer or director, so there are no plot details or specific information available at this time.

Originally launched in 1981 as My Pretty Pony and revamped the following year, My Little Pony became one of the most recognizable toy brands of the 1980s, leading to a syndicated animated series of the same name and the theatrical film My Little Pony: The Movie in 1986. The franchise received renewed popularity, accompanied by a new male fanbase known as ‘bronies,’ with the 2010 reboot, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

My Little Pony is part of an expanding roster of projects for Hasbro, which also includes a live-action Magic: The Gathering film and TV universe in partnership with Legendary, an animated Magic: The Gathering series for Netflix, and a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series for the streaming platform.

About Gary Collinson: Gary Collinson is a producer and writer of film, TV, and digital content. He is the founder of the pop culture site Flickering Myth and has produced the gothic horror film 'The Baby in the Basket' and the forthcoming suspense thriller 'Death Among the Pines.'
