The Baltimorons Trailer: Jay Duplass Makes a Comeback with a Heartwarming Christmas Eve Story
After a series of collaborative projects with his brother Mark Duplass, ranging from 2005’s The Puffy Chair to 2012’s The Do-Deca-Pentathlon, Jay Duplass is now taking the reins for his first solo feature. The Baltimorons, set to release from IFC on September 5, stars Michael Strassner (who co-wrote the screenplay with Duplass), Liz Larsen, and Olivia Luccardi. The film has received acclaim since its premiere at SXSW, and the first trailer and poster have now been unveiled.
The synopsis reads: “On Christmas Eve, Cliff, an improv comedian who is newly sober, breaks a tooth and finds himself in the emergency care of Didi, an older, no-nonsense dentist. What starts as a simple check-up leads to an unpredictable evening full of misadventures. Together, Cliff and Didi struggle against being estranged from their families, confront their greatest fears, and uncover a surprising and tender bond.”
John Fink noted in his review, “The Baltimorons marks a return to form for Jay Duplass, who is also making his debut as a solo director. This charming film harks back to the low-budget indies he created with his brother Mark. Co-written by and starring burly stand-up comedian Michael Strassner, the film unfolds in Baltimore and tracks the misadventures of an unlikely romantic pair: the six-month sober stand-up comedian Cliff (Strassner) and his older, workaholic dentist Didi (Liz Larsen). While bantering with his fiancée Brittany (Olivia Luccardi), Cliff trips and chips a tooth, leading him on a frantic search for a dentist who can help him on Christmas Eve. Didi is the only one willing to take his call, agreeing to meet him in her empty office for the procedure.”
