The B-Side – Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler from Killer Films
Welcome to The B-Side! Here, we discuss movie stars, directors, and occasionally the production companies behind the films created by these stars and directors! We were fortunate to chat with Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler from Killer Films in celebration of Metrograph’s 30th Anniversary program, with screenings beginning on August 2, 2025.
Vachon and Koffler shared their insights on curating this celebratory program, which features Office Killer. We also reminisced about Conor's and my experiences as interns at Killer several years ago, some B-Sides (including A Home at the End of the World, The Safety of Objects, Dark Waters), and how Killer has thrived in the ever-evolving landscape of independent cinema.
A delightful conversation unfolded about wigs in film, sparked by Colin Farrell’s poorly designed wig in the first act of A Home at the End of the World, along with an appreciation for the making of Dark Waters and its continued discovery to this day, and line producers “carrying the burden of the budget.”
Vachon expresses sorrow over The Safety of Objects being overshadowed by the tragedy of 9/11, while Koffler provides insights into why independent ensemble dramas have fallen out of favor. We also talk about the pitfalls of settling for "good enough" during pre-production, and Vachon and Koffler enthusiastically mention Killer Films B-Sides they personally cherish (The World to Come, Vox Lux, Dirty Girl). I also highlight She Came to Me, a recent, underrated gem.
