Exclusive Trailer for Le Lac, the Feature Debut by Fabrice Aragno, a Collaborator of Jean-Luc Godard, Heading to Locarno.
After years of directing short films and working alongside Jean-Luc Godard on his final projects, Swiss filmmaker Fabrice Aragno is set to debut his first feature at the Locarno Film Festival. Titled Le Lac, the 75-minute film features Clotilde Courau and Bernard Stamm and will be showcased in the Concorso Internazionale category. We are excited to exclusively present the first trailer.
Here’s the synopsis: “A man and a woman embark on a sailing competition that spans several days and nights on a vast lake. One desires to cross over, yet cannot. Signs of life are absent, yet the essence of life is felt in the rushing tide, the wind's whisper, the drifting clouds, and the distant call of birds. One must dive deeply within and endure the heartache that nature inflicts.”
“We long to cross to the other side… but we cannot… However, we can perceive the essence of life in the crashing waves, the air’s gentle breeze, the fleeting clouds, and the solitary calls of birds,” Fabrice Aragno comments.
Aragno also shared insights with Variety, stating, “I've created short films independently, but this project is distinctive as it's a feature film, not a documentary. It exists in that gray area. The narrative is quite straightforward; it follows a couple striving to reconnect with their feelings. People are increasingly detached, which mirrors the world today. The truth feels obscured; everything is seen through a barrier, the barrier of the screen. These two individuals need to immerse themselves in reality, in truth. The film encapsulates this journey, transitioning from fiction to reality, encompassing human experiences, animals, physicality, and sensations. The plot isn't the focal point; instead, it's about the expression through the breadth of what cinema can achieve with image and sound. I'm employing everything I've learned from Godard, experimenting with the freedom of visual and auditory elements. It promises to be a true cinematic spectacle.”
