Twinless Trailer: Dylan O’Brien and James Sweeney Develop an Enigmatic Connection in Sundance Winner
One of the most talked-about films set to debut at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award, James Sweeney’s *Twinless* will be released on September 5 by Roadside Attractions. Featuring Sweeney alongside Dylan O’Brien, Lauren Graham, Aisling Franciosi, Tasha Smith, and Chris Perfetti, the first trailer has now been unveiled ahead of its release.
The synopsis reads: “In *Twinless*, two young men connect in a twin bereavement support group and develop an unexpected friendship. Roman (Dylan O’Brien) and Dennis (James Sweeney) both seek comfort and a sense of identity after the loss of their twin brothers, and they quickly become inseparable outside the group.”
In our Sundance review, Jake Kring-Schreifels commented, “*Twinless* begins like a typical Sundance film—serious and dark yet interspersed with surprising humor. This formula seems to encapsulate a festival that could easily be credited with coining the term 'dramedy.' In this instance, there’s an offscreen car accident followed by a quick cut to a funeral. Roman (Dylan O’Brien) is seen grieving next to his mother (Lauren Graham) as the casket holding his gay identical twin brother, Rocky, is lowered into the earth. It’s a somber event—filled with tears, tissues, and a violinist playing ‘Danny Boy’—until the music abruptly stops on a sour note, leading to an uncomfortable silence. It creates the first moment where laughter feels permissible, allowing you to acknowledge the slight absurdity of a gathering where mourners approach Roman, crying at how much he resembles the deceased.”
