Robert Carlyle will take on the role of Sherlock Holmes in the second season of Watson.
The renowned Sherlock Holmes will be introduced in the CBS medical drama Watson, with Robert Carlyle (known from Once Upon a Time) joining the cast in the second season, set to return on October 13th.
Watson reimagines Dr. John Watson in the wake of Sherlock's pivotal encounter with Professor Moriarty, as he leads a private clinic focused on solving medical mysteries. Staying true to Arthur Conan Doyle's original works and various adaptations of Sherlock Holmes over the years, Holmes will make a comeback to Watson after his presumed death, prompting Watson to reevaluate his past. The season two synopsis states:
As Watson looks toward the future, he faces an unforeseen turn of events when Sherlock Holmes, believed to be dead, appears again, compelling him to confront a long-buried secret from his past — a secret that is hidden within his own body.
“We are excited to welcome the talented Robert Carlyle to the cast of Watson in Season 2,” remarked Craig Sweeny, executive producer and showrunner. “He has portrayed memorable characters in films like Trainspotting, The Full Monty, and 28 Weeks Later, and now he’s stepping into the role of the most famous detective of all, Sherlock Holmes. When Watson's closest friend and former partner suddenly reappears, it forces Watson to face their shared history — and a concealed truth that may be buried within him.”
Watson features Morris Chestnut as Dr. John Watson, alongside Eve Harlow, Peter Mark Kendall, Ritchie Coster, Inga Schlingmann, and Rochelle Aytes.
Season 2 of Watson will premiere on October 13th.
