Dave Bautista will portray The Kurgan in the remake of Highlander.
It appears that Henry Cavill’s Connor MacLeod and Russell Crowe’s Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez have discovered their antagonist for the forthcoming Highlander remake, with Deadline reporting that Dave Bautista will take on the role of the brutal immortal The Kurgan, following in Clancy Brown's footsteps.
Highlander is being directed by Chad Stahelski, known for John Wick, and is based on the cult classic 1986 film by director Russell Mulcahy, featuring Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery as immortal warriors engaged in a covert battle leading up to the Gathering, where the last remaining immortals will clash for The Prize.
Alongside Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe, and Bautista, the cast of Highlander also includes Marisa Abela, known for Back to Black, in a role that has not yet been confirmed. The screenplay has been written by Michael Finch (John Wick: Chapter 4), and filming is set to commence in the UK next month, with Lionsgate handling production and distribution.
Former WWE star Bautista is currently involved in the action fantasy In the Lost Lands and made a brief appearance in last month's The Naked Gun. He has a variety of projects lined up, including the action thriller Trap House, a buddy cop comedy titled The Wrecking Crew, the alien invasion sci-fi comedy Alpha Gang, the post-apocalyptic sci-fi action film Afterburn, the animated feature The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, and the upcoming sequel Road House 2 starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
