Magnolia Pictures has released a poster and trailer for writer-director Carmen Emmi’s Sundance award-winning thriller, Plainclothes, set in the 1990s.
Tom Blyth stars as Lucas, a young police officer given the undercover assignment to lure and arrest gay men in public restrooms. He becomes conflicted between his responsibilities and his feelings when he falls for his target, Andrew (Russell Tovey).

Set in Syracuse during the 1990s, this thrilling film showcases standout performances from Tom Blyth (HUNGER GAMES: THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS & SNAKES) and Russell Tovey (LOOKING). The story follows an ambitious undercover officer (Blyth) tasked with snagging gay men who defies his orders when he develops feelings for a target (Tovey).
At his mother's New Year’s Eve celebration, Lucas loses a letter that was never meant to be seen. In the stifling environment of the family gathering, the search for the letter brings back memories from a past he's attempted to forget. Months prior, while undercover in a mall restroom, Lucas had been arresting men by seducing them. However, upon meeting Andrew, everything shifts. What starts as just another setup evolves into a more intense and intimate connection. As their secret relationship grows and pressure from the police to make arrests mounts, Lucas struggles between his obligations and his emotions. With the clock ticking and his past resurfacing, PLAINCLOTHES builds towards a crucial New Year’s Eve moment where everything he has suppressed threatens to surface.
