MGM+ has officially renewed The Institute, the horror-thriller series based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel from 2019, for a second season comprising eight episodes.
Benjamin Cavell and Jack Bender, executive producers alongside King, expressed their gratitude for the positive reception of the first season, attributing it to the hard work of their talented cast and crew. “We’re excited that Michael Wright and the team at MGM have allowed us to continue Stephen’s significant and timely narrative. From the start of this project, we believed there was more story to explore as our remarkable characters face the dangers of their world.”
Stephen King also shared his enthusiasm for the renewal, stating, “Sometimes you win just by showing them you’re still willing to fight. #TheInstitute will return for Season 2 on @MGMplus.”
MGM+ head Michael Wright added, “The Institute has captivated audiences with its unique storytelling and outstanding performances that effectively bring Stephen King’s distinctive voice to life on screen. We’re delighted to continue and deepen this gripping journey while uncovering more secrets in season two.”
The first season starred Joe Freeman, Mary-Louise Parker, and Ben Barnes, and followed a teenage prodigy who is abducted and sent to a mysterious place known as The Institute, where children with extraordinary abilities reside. It marked the most popular premiere for MGM+ when it launched in July and wrapped up its inaugural season this past weekend.
