We are excited to highlight a genuine indie production today. Filmed on a modest budget of approximately $5,000 over a 10-day road trip to Deadhorse, Alaska, Jacob Gregor’s End of History offers a satirical take on the grim state of American culture, or what remains of it. Making its world premiere at the Chicago Underground Film Festival this September, we are thrilled to present the exclusive trailer for the film featuring Matt Calhoun, Brandon Daley, and Maddie Daviss.

Here’s the synopsis: “A man travels from his home in the Midwest to the northernmost point of Alaska, consuming reactionary YouTube rants and motivational videos in search of meaning within a landscape that has long lost it. End of History is a satirically bleak, low-fidelity journey through strip malls, gas stations, and existential stasis, reflecting America’s cultural decline through the perspective of one man's hollow journey.”

“Like everyone else, I'm addicted to my phone and social media. Lately, my feed has been increasingly filled with right-wing cultural content and similar themes. I find myself drawn to it, diving into the comments and profiles of individuals with genuinely bizarre opinions,” the director remarked. “I never intended to satirize an Andrew Tate-type character, but I have always been fascinated by the types of 'reply guys' that such figures attract. I wanted to create something slow, lonely, and infused with a sense of emptiness. While I am certainly not like the main character in the film, I can identify with his feelings of isolation and the general dissatisfaction with life.”

He continued, “This film was entirely produced by me and one actor as we brainstormed shots on our journey from Chicago to Deadhorse, Alaska. We spent 10 days driving non-stop, stopping to film scenes that were suddenly inspired by the environments around us. Essentially, the whole production budget covered hotels and gas (about $5,000). It’s an indie project in every sense, and I am incredibly proud of the final outcome.”
